If you’re going to do any valve spring work on your Milwaukee Eight motor you will need to remove the rockers from the head, and to do that you need to remove the bolts that attach their shafts to elevated towers cast into the cylinder heads.

The bad word in that sentence is the word ‘bolt’.

A coarse-threaded steel bolt screwing into aluminium is a potential point of failure, and the part that is going to come off worst in any difference of opinion will be the softer material: the cylinder head. The solution is an easy one: put a precisely engineered steel stud into the thread into the aluminium head, locked with red Loctite, and any future servicing will involve steel on steel, fine threads and greater precision.
