It’s well known that the Davidson’s grandfather, Sandy, departed for the US from a cottage just outside Aberlemno, Angus but despite a sculpture being unveiled in Littleport, Cambridgeshire in 2003 many people aren’t aware that William S Harley was a first generation American.

Andy – you hinted at the time that a run between the two founders hometowns might be on the cards. Any more thoughts on that?

Hi Peter,
Michael at the cottage is well up for it but I haven’t been in touch with the crew at Littleport who were behind the monument yet: this summer was so far away when I mentioned it, but is coming up quicker than a V-Rod with a Magnacharger.
A lot to think about re the route and how many days to do it over – destinations on the way, etc. It’s quite do-able in a day, but that might take a lot of the fun out of it for a lot of people because it would either be dull riding on motorways or maintaining a quick pace on roads that you’d want to enjoy riding and savour the experience.
I was going to talk it over with a friend who runs tours and see if he has any ideas, and I’ve got a silly idea of talking to Harley and turning it into the ultimate UK t-shirt tour, riding from Harley to Davidson – or vice versa – via as many dealers as we can get to sign up.
I feel a consultation post coming on.
