Haughton CBD Honey

Here’s something I didn’t anticipate ever running in American-V, but then while CBD has been known about for a long time – in terms of its medicinal properties – it is only just starting a rehabilitation programme, because it comes from that naughty Cannabis that society’s guardians warned us about. Warnings that many of us have ignored at some point or other in our lives.

Let’s get this out of the way quickly: this is not a recreational drug, a legal high and has nothing to do with those t-shirts depicting Pooh and Piglet getting off their face on something that AA Milne didn’t endorse in his books. The narcotic present in Cannabis – THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol – does that, and CBD must have less than 3% THC by law.

CBD – Cannabidiol – has been used by many people for many things, mainly because it reacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system, encouraging it to generate more of its own cannabinoids. It is suggested that it may reduce anxiety, pain or inflammation, but scientists apparently don’t fully understand how.

Anecdotally, cancer sufferers are walking out of wards, their cancer in full remission – which is a massive claim – and there are many reported health benefits from CBD as legislation has been relaxed around the world.

Apparently Queen Victoria was prescribed it as a painkiller but then she was allegedly introduced to Cocaine and Heroin too, at a time when they were readily available across a chemist’s counter. Of course, they were pharmaceutical grades back then, and might yet be again. I found a recipe for cough tincture in my grandmother’s handwriting, one of the primary ingredients of which was Laudanum!

It is generally accepted that CBD tastes bloody horrible, and one quick way of getting rid of that taste is a spoonful of honey, eh Mrs Poppins?

So why not infuse honey with a high quality “Full Spectrum” CBD?

Haughton Honey aren’t the first to come up with the idea, but are one of a more select group of organic honey producers who are committed to getting the best quality CBD to create a high quality product, because just as honey isn’t all the same, neither is CBD.

That is why they’ve gone for a fully certified, organically grown CBD extract – the certification can be seen on their website – essential in justifying the cost of a jar, which at £29.95 is bloody expensive for honey, but very reasonable in terms of its CBD content, having 850mg of a certified CBD per 100g.

I’m not an advocate of the use of CBD per se, although I know a lot of people who use it in a medicinal context and who are persuaded that it does offer relief to a range of symptoms: I can only recommend that you look further into it and make your own mind up.

I’m certainly enjoying this jar and I’m not short of the odd ache and pain – especially in winter, resulting from the odd break combined with age – but I couldn’t say conclusively whether it is Haughton’s CBD-infused Honey rather than the mildness of the season that has made this winter pass without any major discomfort.

It is fantastic on wholemeal toast, though, but I think I need to check the placebo effect of their regular regular honey and will report back in a couple of months.
