Amazing how things stick in your head, even when they’ve got no reason to be there in the first place: I’m far too young to remember anything by Gerry Anderson before Captain Scarlet! But I digress.
If you can see the benefits of LED lighting on your bike – low power use, instant-on and high visibility – but don’t want to mess about mounting smaller units, Cyron have developed these 2-inch ACT11 ‘bulbs’ called “The Torch”, which they say are the brightest LEDs available for the application, bar none. The ‘T’ in their model designation seems to suggest a unibody, with an aluminium heatsink round the LEDs, rather than the usual AC11 which has a connector and the LED array connected by flylead.
With plenty of lumens – whatever happened to watts? – and a wide 120-degree viewing angle, they comprise an outer ring of white LEDs as a halo round the main indicator light, and look like they simply slot into an existing bulbholder, in which case you want to make sure you’re running clear or smokes lenses.
There are many options, in terms of colour and applications, and I’m going to leave you with the link to their website, and see if you’re as confused as I am … not least because the ACT11s are so new that they’re not listed at the time of writing.
What I can tell you is that the AC11s are sold as pairs and are in the $80 bracket.
