If you recognise this, it’s possibly because we’ve already run the Zodiac 124-inch kit in these pages, which is basically this plus big bore barrels and pistons.
This gives us chance to talk about the Cam Chest kit itself, and S&S’ monster 550 cam, which is designed for big inch motors and is said to be good for 120hp and 128ftlbs of torque with a high flow a/c and a header.
So, the Milwaukee Eight is still running a chain drive cam – albeit just the one of them again – and S&S are offering two solutions including a gear drive. Actually two pairs of solutions: one for oil cooled heads and the other for water-cooled heads.
Each pair includes one chain drive and one gear driven cam set-up but both include a new oil pump and a new cam plate – the two precision-machine billet aluminium units in blue in the picture. They are particularly proud of their new oil pump, which with a 44% increase in flow and a 58% increase in scavenge is the best in class, but more importantly the kits of parts have been designed from the outset to work together perfectly.
And it is a complete kit, including gaskets and bearings, tappets – and the tappet cuffs that are essential for a high lift cam – Quickee pushrod kit, chrome pushrod tubes, heavy duty valve springs and, of course, the Cam. And the outer gears in the gear drive kit.
