God’s Biker: Motorcycles and Misfits

I’ve known Sean for thirty years now – since my BSH days when he was in the CMA – and despite not sharing his faith, he has never preached at me and I’ve considered him to be a good friend. So it was interesting to receive the book that he has written regarding his faith and his journey: his calling.

A very personal story, it tells of Sean’s upbringing as the son of a preacher, his struggles with his faith within and external to the established church, and his love of drums and motorcycles.

But more than that it is a very human story of a self aware, flawed individual who has used his faith, sense of humour and particularly the strength he draws from the teachings of his saviour, Jesus Christ, to help and support people on the fringes of society. And particularly ministering to bikers who are seeking some sort of greater meaning in their lives.

I have struggled with this book, which at times can read like the directors cut of Radio 4’s “Thought For The Day”, but would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who is perhaps questioning their faith and looking for answers.

Not that I think Sean has them, but that he has an open and enquiring approach – within the constraints of faith and interpretations of his bible – which could give comfort and support to those who need it.
