{"id":4318,"date":"2019-09-12T19:00:51","date_gmt":"2019-09-12T18:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/?p=4318"},"modified":"2019-10-03T16:49:54","modified_gmt":"2019-10-03T15:49:54","slug":"remember-dakota-digital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/remember-dakota-digital\/","title":{"rendered":"Remember Dakota Digital?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"western\"><strong>There was a time, not so very long ago, when putting a digital dashboard in your bike meant beating a path to Dakota\u2019s door, but times have changed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Coincidentally, when shooting Snob\u2019s Dark Knight last month, I was trying to remember the last time I\u2019d seen one, and when I couldn\u2019t I mentally consigned it to the history books, alongside tax disc holders and Scott Oilers. And why wouldn\u2019t they be, as competition hots up, prices drop and manufacturers start to incorporate increasing number of digital elements in their stock instruments \u2026 or digital instruments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Actually, that\u2019s an easy question to answer: there are a hell of a lot of old and new bikes out there with analogue instruments, and much more acceptance of digital. This should be the dawning of their new golden age, assuming they can keep up to date with developments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">Apparently they can.<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"western\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><b>MLX-3000 Series Speedometer\/Tachometer<\/b><\/span><\/h1>\n<p class=\"western\">Starting simple, this is Dakota\u2019s offering for Harley\u2019s 3 3\/8\u201d instrument, as found on Sportsters, Rockers and a number of Dyna models, and turns your simple speedo into an information centre.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">In a machined aluminium housing with a black or chrome bevel, the MLX-3000 gives you a user-configurable readout in one of 31 colours with the option to change specific colours to make them more or less prominent to suit you \u2013 you can switch off elements that you don\u2019t need \u2013 or just choose from one of 12 pre-set themes. That isn\u2019t a picture of ten different instruments but ten configurations, and it\u2019s only a shame that they didn\u2019t show more of the bar graph readouts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">You will be delighted to learn that you configure it using your Smartphone \u2013 well, IOS and Android: Windows isn\u2019t mentioned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">And you get:<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 a 250mph speedometer<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 metric or imperial measurement<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 graphic tachometer with adjustable shift point with optional digital readout<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 Odometer with two resettable trips<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 Miles to service: user configurable countdown<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 Hours in use<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 Clock (12-hour format)<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 Voltage readout with low voltage alert<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 Gear position indicator compatible with 4-7 speed transmissions<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 Indicators for check engine, security and cruise set (if bike has it)<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">\u2022 Performance calculations, including:<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">0- 60 time,<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">high speed recall<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" choice between black or chrome bezels, however, because it uses the stock chrome trim rings from the OEM gauges<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">To save cross-referencing, this dashboard gives you:<\/p>\n<p told that you, too, get the graphic bars for fuel level and tacho, but there\u2019s no evidence of that on the pictures. Maybe they\u2019re just showing how simple they can be in digital text only modes, but if you feel the need for dial-like information at a glance, you\u2019d best check first.
