\"\"<\/a>It has been a summer for Kevlar shirts and the run back\u00a0from Prague on an Ultra Limited \u2013 with its \u2018Willie Wings\u2019\u00a0diverting air behind the screen \u2013 was the best test for a\u00a0vented textile that I could have hoped for.<\/strong><\/p>\n

With my excess luggage heading back to Blighty in\u00a0Harley\u2019s support truck leaving plenty of space for my leather\u00a0jacket in the Tour Pak, I was as free to make the most of the\u00a0weather and any concerns that the Batwing would block\u00a0too much wind were allayed by the time I cleared the urban\u00a0jungle.<\/p>\n

I felt as though I was cheating, riding past fellow visitors\u00a0to the 115th Party as they made their way home in full\u00a0riding gear, and I wondered how many thought I was doing\u00a0some last minute sightseeing before packing for home \u2013 or\u00a0tutting under their breath about the irresponsibility of just\u00a0wearing a shirt \u2013 but I was loving it.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I\u2019d made a point of unzipping the underarm vents and\u00a0the exhaust vent across the back, to get the maximum effect,\u00a0and remembering Amanda\u2019s comments on how fresh the\u00a0RSD Stoddard shirt smelt after a ride in the summer, I was\u00a0glad to be out of the city heat and on the road.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I\u2019ve been switching between the two shirts for most of\u00a0the summer and they have very different characteristics,\u00a0the John Doe Motoshirt being more a classic shirt with the\u00a0breast pockets backed up by a couple more inside, and its\u00a0full length zipper concealed behind a conventional shirt\u00a0front, whereas the Stoddard has a couple of waist pockets\u00a0and is more of a lightweight, satin-lined plaid jacket.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Both have their place, but I only had space for one this\u00a0trip and the Motoshirt needed putting through its paces.<\/p>\n

Even with the diverted air on the Ultra, the underarm\u00a0vents made a massive difference \u2013 I could tell just by closing\u00a0them, which is a bit fiddly as the zipper tags are small\u00a0enough to be unobtrusive in normal use \u2013 and it was a\u00a0more generous size. I had considered sending it back and\u00a0requesting a smaller one \u2013 because it\u2019s a lot of material to\u00a0fit beneath a jacket \u2013 but was glad that I hadn\u2019t because the\u00a0extra material was welcome, flapping about in the breeze\u00a0and aiding convection.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>You wouldn\u2019t know, to look at it, that it was anything\u00a0other than a western-style shirt, with branded studs\u00a0apparently keeping the shirt front and the pocket flaps\u00a0closed, and a couple concealed to hold the collar down.<\/p>\n

Even the John Doe branding is subtle: a sew-on laundry\u00a0tag at the front and crossed adjustable spanners on the left\u00a0shoulder to mark it out as being for a biker rather than a\u00a0lumberjack.<\/p>\n

It is pocketed for amour but none is supplied as standard,\u00a0giving you the option of hard or soft, or none at all, which\u00a0is how I\u2019m wearing it: I really should look out some 3DO\u00a0armour and see how the material copes with it, but having\u00a0ridden for most of my adult life without it, I don\u2019t miss it\u00a0and I\u2019m wearing this for its abrasion resistance more than\u00a0impact protection.<\/p>\n

An excellent piece of clothing with multiple uses.<\/p>\n
