\"\"<\/a>I\u2019ve got to come clean, and admit that I haven\u2019t\u00a0been using my Davida as much as I should\u00a0have done, but that was entirely because I\u00a0underestimated how much I would use the\u00a0comms and camera that I put onto an old, almost\u00a0sacrificial helmet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t want to clutter up my best helmet with\u00a0odd-looking tech, but that has now become so\u00a0much a part of my riding life, that I bit the bullet\u00a0recently and installed the second 20S to the Jet.<\/p>\n

And while I immediately wished it had been a\u00a0black unit, to merge in with the helmet better, I\u00a0was staggered how well this tightest of tight-fitting\u00a0helmets accommodated the earpieces.<\/p>\n

When I say tight, I mean that it is by far the\u00a0most secure open face I have even known \u2013 so\u00a0much so, in fact, that I have often ridden away\u00a0without fastening it and only realised when the\u00a0untethered strap flicks against the side of the lid\u00a0rather than being constrained by the double D\u2013ring fastener.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>And being tight, that keeps the wind noise\u00a0down \u2013 and the engine noise and the exhaust\u00a0noise \u2013 which is great for the intercom at speed:\u00a0there is never a problem with people hearing you,\u00a0but occasionally you can struggle to hear them\u00a0above a noisy helmet.<\/p>\n

I was delighted, however, to note that it didn\u2019t\u00a0kill the sound of the 2018 Indian.<\/p>\n

The only criticism I\u2019ve ever had of it, is that\u00a0this older type snaps the arms of riding glasses.<\/p>\n

The design has since been changed to provide\u00a0a channel in the leather lined EPS for those\u00a0arms, but the alternative is to wear Davida\u2019s own\u00a0\u201cSeventy4\u201d riding glasses. These interchangeable lens\u00a0riding glasses have very thin and flexible\u00a0arms \u2013 and convert into goggles using a strap\u00a0in place of the arms \u2013 but unfortunately their\u00a0flexibility is both a strength and a weakness, and\u00a0they don\u2019t cut it as a pair of sunglasses because\u00a0they keep falling off your head.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Of course, some of you will be thinking that\u00a0this must be getting on a bit now: shouldn\u2019t I be\u00a0considering replacing it? Shouldn\u2019t you do that\u00a0every five years?<\/p>\n

I am considering a change but only because the\u00a0newer Speedster 3 has a closer fitting outer shell,\u00a0not because it has aged and Davidas age far better\u00a0than most.<\/p>\n

The outer shell is a fibreglass composite and is\u00a0unaffected by UV \u2013 unlike Polycarbonate \u2013 the\u00a0leather lining is showing no ill effects of age,\u00a0and it still fit very snugly with no breakdown of\u00a0the foam. And I haven\u2019t dropped it or, with the\u00a0exception of occasionally grazing the garage door,\u00a0had an accident in it.<\/p>\n
