You know the old joke about having t-shirts\u00a0older than your friends\u2019 kids \/ bike \/ latest\u00a0relationship? It\u2019s funny because it is frequently\u00a0true, but I didn\u2019t expect it to be so true of one of\u00a0Harley-Davidson\u2019s first technical t-shirts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was nonplussed when I took it out of the\u00a0bag: it didn\u2019t hang well \u2013 which is to say that\u00a0it didn\u2019t hang like cotton \u2013 and I didn\u2019t have a\u00a0lot of hope for the robustness of its microfibre\u00a0polyester, but that\u2019s why we test things \u2026 and\u00a0why we\u2019ve started to revisit them.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not long out of the washing machine,\u00a0looks very much the same as it did when it was\u00a0new with no bobbling or fading, and unlike\u00a0most polyester technical shirts I\u2019ve tried, it\u00a0hasn\u2019t been caught by anything sharp and\u00a0\u2018laddered\u2019. And not because I treat it with kid\u00a0gloves: nothing gets an easy ride here.<\/p>\n

In fact, it is one of my most used t-shirts,\u00a0whether as an undershirt in winter or under just\u00a0a jacket in summer \u2013 in both cases making the\u00a0most of its anti-microbial qualities to counter\u00a0odours, thanks to silver ions in the material.<\/p>\n

Use of silver nanoparticles is common enough\u00a0in sports clothing now to trigger environmental\u00a0scares in knee-jerk circles, but they were\u00a0uncommon at the time in bike clothing.<\/p>\n

Apparently, that\u2019s not an issue in the\u00a0concentrations that are released by washing but\u00a0they could cause a problem in landfill.<\/p>\n

That won\u2019t be a problem here, as this won\u2019t be\u00a0thrown away: it is far too useful and is holding\u00a0up exceptionally well.<\/p>\n

Its primary benefit is that it is a true \u2018wash\u00a0and wear\u2019 item: wear it through a challenging\u00a0day, wash it last thing at night \u2013 having worn\u00a0it into the evening \u2013 and it will be dry the\u00a0following day.<\/p>\n

No, you can\u2019t buy this particular t-shirt\u00a0today, but its technology is still in Harley’s\u00a0Performance range, with additional things like\u00a0Coldblack which reflects the sun\u2019s heat, making\u00a0it comfortable to wear in hot weather despite\u00a0being a close fit.<\/p>\n
