And if it can\u2019t be used, it can certainly be\u00a0adapted.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When cables snap \u2013 or their nipples come off \u2013 the outer\u00a0cable is usually still fine: in the case of the nipple coming\u00a0off, so is the inner. Sadly that\u2019s only a consolation if you\u00a0can find the nipple, some solder, a source of heat and a bird\u00a0caging tool to do what the manufacturer failed to do in the\u00a0first place. Sorry, that\u2019s still raw &#8230; and the solderless end\u00a0that an AA man fitted is still in place but then that bike\u00a0hasn\u2019t turned a wheel in a while. When it does it will\u00a0have new handlebars and a new cable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3031 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo-1024x759.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"309\" srcset=\"https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo-1024x759.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo-200x148.jpg 200w, https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo-600x444.jpg 600w, https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo-768x569.jpg 768w, https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo-100x74.jpg 100w, https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo-862x639.jpg 862w, https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo-1200x889.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-Speedo.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 417px) 100vw, 417px\" \/><\/a>Back at the plot, the good news is that inner cables are\u00a0remarkably flexible, light and packable in\u00a0a way that a whole cable isn\u2019t, and they\u2019ll\u00a0usually thread straight down into the\u00a0hole vacated by its broken predecessor.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s bad news too: inner cables\u00a0of American bikes tend to be thicker\u00a0than the 1.5mm throttle and 2mm clutch\u00a0provided, and at 1.6m or 63-inches, the length is\u00a0borderline for many applications.<\/p>\n<p>And, of course, there are as many nipple combinations\u00a0as there are twistgrips and carbs.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, a thin inner will fit in a wider outer, so as a\u00a0\u2018space saver\u2019 repair \u2013 with the right nipples \u2013 this will still\u00a0get many people home &#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3032 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/american-v.cso2w.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Slinky-Glide-1024x650.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a>although probably not if they\u2019ve\u00a0got 18-inch apehangers or a stretched frame.<\/p>\n<p>One end of the emergency inner already has a small\u00a0nipple soldered to it \u2013 the sort that slots into bigger ones to\u00a0meet the requirement \u2013 and there is a range of solderless\u00a0nipples for the other end, but not the range of Allen keys\u00a0that you need to secure them.
