\"\"<\/a>Imagine a pair of trousers, as resistant to tearing as steel<\/strong>,\u00a0that could protect your delicate skin from the abrasion of\u00a0the road in the event of accident, and then imagine that\u00a0they were as comfortable as a pair of jeans, looked like\u00a0jeans and in fact were a pair of jeans.<\/p>\n

Yes, we\u2019ve all seen them: denim jeans with an aramid\u00a0lining \u2013 branded or otherwise \u2013 in a range of styles that\u00a0either draw attention to its inclusion or do everything to\u00a0disguise it. They are coming thick and fast now, and in\u00a0as many styles and colours as regular jeans, but these are\u00a0different.<\/p>\n

These are, to all intents and purposes, a pair of jeans.<\/p>\n

Turn them inside-out and other than two pairs of empty\u00a0pockets that can take Rokker\u2019s preferred 3D0 armour, you\u00a0won\u2019t be able to tell them apart from regular denim. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

So where\u2019s the lining?<\/p>\n

In every thread.<\/p>\n

Literally.<\/p>\n

Every thread of cotton is formed round a core of the\u00a0latest candidate for the title \u2018World\u2019s Strongest Fibre\u2019,\u00a0the poetically named Ultra High Molecular Weight\u00a0PolyEthelene \u2013 or UHMWPE to its friends.<\/p>\n

Developed for space and military applications, it is said\u00a0to have an unparalleled resistance to wear, but it is a fibre\u00a0and as such can be incorporated into fabrics in all sorts of\u00a0imaginative ways.<\/p>\n

And that is exactly what Rokker have done.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Most denim uses two vertical \u2018Warp\u2019 cotton threads,\u00a0dyed to give the material its colour, and a horizontal \u2018Weft\u2019\u00a0thread which is left raw \u2013 which is why jeans are a lighter\u00a0colour when turned inside-out \u2013 and Rokker take this\u00a0a step further. In the ROKKERTECH denim, the more\u00a0structural warps are wrapped round UHMWPE while the\u00a0weft contains an element of Dual FX Lycra within the core\u00a0to give it a welcome element of elasticity where you need it.<\/p>\n

They look and feel like a regular 14oz denim, are tailored\u00a0in the timeless 5-pocket style, and nobody would ever\u00a0know but you, your credit card company and any witnesses\u00a0to you sliding down the road on your\u00a0backside, expecting an unpleasant\u00a0mess when you stood up.<\/p>\n

Indeed, they feel like\u00a0a very good modern\u00a0denim, offering\u00a0unrestricted\u00a0movement \u2013 even\u00a0in a Slim fit \u2013 and\u00a0they have the best zip\u00a0in the world: buttons.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I\u2019ve never actually\u00a0been a big fan of a button\u00a0fly, myself, but with a\u00a0smaller button used for\u00a0the opening than the\u00a0main fastening \u2013 and\u00a0all Rokker-branded,\u00a0of course \u2013 I\u2019m\u00a0converted.<\/p>\n

As such, I\u2019m\u00a0tempted to wear\u00a0them all day, every\u00a0day \u2013 well, except\u00a0when grubbing\u00a0around in the\u00a0workshop with\u00a0oily hands \u2013\u00a0because they\u00a0certainly\u00a0have that all-day comfort\u00a0that jeans are\u00a0renowned for.\u00a0But I\u2019m currently\u00a0saving them for\u00a0when I need to make a\u00a0good impression and for\u00a0photo shoots \u2026 although I\u00a0am desperate to find out what\u00a0happens when the cotton starts\u00a0to degrade, as it eventually must.<\/p>\n

I can only presume that the\u00a0UHMWPE will become visible,\u00a0but they certainly won\u2019t be going\u00a0through at the knees.<\/p>\n

They\u2019re not cheap, but there\u2019s\u00a0nothing else like them at the\u00a0moment. And you do get the\u00a0assurance of the highest quality\u00a0and the bonus of a free Rocker\u00a0T-shirt in the cotton drawstring\u00a0bag that they are shipped in …\u00a0which, incidentally, makes a great\u00a0helmet bag … for a small helmet.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n
